ImprovementFlow · Improvement Work

One improvement, every site and service line, one view of progress

Strategic initiatives bring the same improvement to many sites and service lines at once. Give each local team clear ownership of its own action plan, while you and your leaders see where implementation is moving and where a site needs support.

An initiative lead at her desk points to a timeline of colored bars and milestones while colleagues from other sites, including a nurse, a facilities lead, a pharmacist and an IT analyst, join on a video call

Sound familiar?

What we hear from initiative leads using standard approaches

Common frustrations with the usual tools and workarounds — the gaps ImprovementFlow is built to close.

We rolled out one improvement, and every site rebuilt the plan from scratch.
A shared improvement turns into many disconnected projects, and teams repeat the same planning work.
I find out a site is stuck after the go-live date has passed.
Local barriers stay hidden in each site's own tracker until it's too late to send help.
Every service line reports progress differently, so I can't compare them.
Without one view, leaders can't tell which sites and service lines need support.

How it works

From a shared aim to parallel work you can see

Set the improvement once. Each site and service line runs its own part of it, and everyone stays connected to the same aim.

  1. 1

    Set the shared aim once

Define what the initiative is trying to change, the measures that show it and the milestones every site works toward.

  2. 2

Give each site and service line its own action plan

Local teams own their actions, owners and dates, adapted to how their site works, all connected to the shared aim.

  3. 3

    Work in parallel

Each team tracks its local actions, milestones and measures alongside the overall initiative, with tree and Gantt views of the work.

  4. 4

    See progress side by side

The initiative lead and leadership see every site's progress in one view, so a site that is falling behind stands out early.

  5. 5

Clear barriers and spread what works

When a site hits a barrier, connect it to an improvement project and bring it to leadership review, so the fix can reach the other sites.

In practice

One initiative, five teams, one view of progress

Every site and service line works its own action plan against the same aim. Leaders can see at a glance which team needs help, before the target date slips.

Illustrative initiative, teams and counts. You decide the aim, the sites and service lines involved and what each local plan contains.

Getting started

Your first 90 days

Start with one initiative that's already underway and a few of the sites or service lines carrying it.

  1. Weeks 1–2

Choose one initiative and two or three sites. Set the shared aim, measures and milestones with us in a working session.

  2. Weeks 3–6

Each site builds and works its local action plan. The initiative lead watches progress side by side.

  3. Weeks 7–12

Review progress with leadership, act on the barriers that surfaced and decide which sites to add next.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Strategic Planning?
Strategic planning sets direction and cascades goals. Strategic initiatives coordinate the work of putting one improvement in place across many sites and service lines, with local ownership and a connected view of progress. A strategic plan often names the initiatives; this is where each one gets carried out.
Can each site adapt the plan?
Yes. The shared aim and measures stay the same, and each site or service line owns its own action plan, so it can fit the work to the way it runs.
Does it work across service lines as well as sites?
Yes. An initiative can run across sites, service lines or both, with each local team's progress shown alongside the others.
Can we track measures, not just tasks?
Yes. Local actions, milestones and measures are tracked alongside the overall initiative, so you can see whether the work is changing results as well as whether it's getting done.
What happens when a site gets stuck?
The barrier is visible in the initiative view, and the work can connect to an improvement project and to leadership review, so the site gets help and the fix can reach the others.
What about security?
HIPAA compliance, a BAA and SSO are included in every package.
